Myth: During hypnosis you are asleep or unconscious and will not remember anything afterwards and the hypnotist can make you divulge all your secrets.

Truth: During hypnosis, you remain awake and are in control and absolutely aware of everything you are doing. While participating in hypnosis or trance you can think for yourself and are in complete control of your actions. You do not have to be ā€œunconsciousā€ or even close your eyes to be in trance. You can still lie while undergoing hypnosis.

Myth: You can be hypnotised against your will.

Truth: Hypnosis works best when you are a willing participant. The power a hypnotist has is subject to the control you allow. A hypnotist will make suggestions which you can choose to accept or reject as you would any other suggestions. Allowing the hypnotist to make these suggestions and accepting them is where the true power of hypnosis exists.

Myth: Not everyone can be hypnotised.

Truth: If you will allow yourself to be guided into a trance, you will enter a trance state and therefore be hypnotised.

Myth: People have become ā€˜stuck’ in hypnotic trances.

Truth: It is not possible to become stuck in a trance. You pass through alpha states (the state you enter during hypnosis) every day as you drift off to sleep and as you wake in the morning.

Myth: Hypnosis is dangerous.

Truth: No one has ever been hurt or died from using Hypnosis. That is less than we can say for other quit methods.
